Default Flying or Ferry? (Jersey)

I'm planning a surprise trip to Jersey for my mum's birthday in September.

I'm wondering which is going to work out cheaper- flying or ferry.

From the research I have done online, both are going to cost around £400 for the actual travelling.

If we fly, it means either hiring a car or using public transport. So my questions are:

1. What would the average price be to hire a car in Jersey for one weeks stay? We would only need a very small car as there will only be two of us.

2. What is the public transport like? How much do buses cost? Can you get a one week bus pass? How much? Is the service good? As in, do the buses run everywhere and are they frequent? (10-20 minute wait or is it going to be an hours wait)

car hire is quite pricy. buses untill 28th september are pritty good, £150 single per person, airport to town, and they run every 30 minutes or so. mybus - Jersey Public Transportation taxi into town will cost around £20 from the airport. my choice ... go to poole jump on the ferry as foot passengers, brings you straight in to the harbour in town, and that is with condor ferries. by air I would only use Flybe flying Gatwick and other airports.
for car hire contact Falles car hire. Good luck.

The buses are OK in the summer - there used to be some 'week long' tickets, which were decent value, but you can get a bit stranded as some of the more 'out of the way' occasions.

Have you checked for any hotels which are doing free car rental? Or any similar deals?
