The child abuse enquiry? There's not really enough evidence available to the public to comment - suffice to say that the human infant has a full complement of 20 teeth, that 52 could add up to 2.6 children, and I seem to remember my milk teeth falling out individually rather than en masse....
Position about police detention was blown out of all proportion?
I guess the small issue of extending the period of detention by a couple of weeks (as opposed to indefinitely in Jersey) in the UK was just a storm in a teacup....
To consider the cock-up at the Bel Royal end of Victoria Avenue as not as bad financially as it seemed is a little weak - it didn't need redesigning, so how much would it have cost to simply lay some new tarmac? Granted, the cost of oil has gone up, but if Topgear is to be believed (possibly slightly more reliable?), it could probably have been done overnight by an efficient workforce, at a fraction of the total cost of over £1m.
Sorry to go off topic, but you can add to this the fact that they've just committed to purchasing a brand new shiny (until it starts spewing out unprecedented amounts of CO2) incinerator for all the waste Jersey is apparently not bothered to recycle - despite no real facilities being provided. It's my opinion that the current "fly-tipping" problem at recycling centres is due to a general lack of public information and encouragement to recycle - it's not really difficult - paper is pretty obviously not plastic or metal and vice versa.
Also, regarding this 2035 plan - I read somewhere they were planning on combating an aging population by allowing for ~540 immigrants per year, with about half of these being "working" individuals and the rest being associated family.
Surely, bringing in a 1:1 ratio of workers to non-workers doesn't help the situation, its more likely to compound it by increasing congestion on the road and increasing the demand on housing.
Oh, but I forgot to mention, they plan to build a further 8400 homes - assuming an increase of 540 per year, for 27 years, that's about 1.7 people per household.
Where are these houses going to go? Where are these people going to work? Are they really considering moving the port to the the most industrialised area of the island? Can they come up with anything more wacky? Who knows...
