Default JDA Say GST Must Go

The Jersey Democratic Association want to scrap GST.

This weekend they've released figures indicating that, on average, every family is being taxed an extra £1,000 a year.

The JDA claim that for a couple the GST bill is £1,200 and that a couple with children will pay an extra £1,560. Single pensioners are handing over £436, according to JDA calculations while a single parent is forking out another £776.

The JDA say GST is undermining living standards and that it must go. Spokesman Deputy Geoff Southern believes additional income tax revenues may go a long way to equalling the estimated £3m-plus a month raised by GST.

If it's 3% on almost everything you spend, that £1,560 for a couple with kids is looking a bit much - it works out to spending £52,000 a year!
I'd love it if my household was bringing in that much to start with, let alone what's left to spend after paying the mortgage!
Who the heck actually *spends* £4,333 a month (not including rent/mortgage)? What are they buying, gold plated groceries?!! Are they forgetting about people actually saving?
