Default New Chief Officer for Planning and Environment

The former Head of Planning, Sustainability and Transportation at Southampton City Council has been appointed as Jersey's new Chief Officer for Planning and Environment.

Andrew Scate brings extensive experience to the role. His main task is to manage the diverse Planning and Environment Department and provide advice, information and guidance to the Minister and the Council of Ministers.

During his time at Southampton City Council, Mr Scate had responsibility for all planning applications and policy, building control work and climate change projects. His experience of promoting change against demanding timescales will stand him in good stead in the present climate of raised public expectations and competing pressure on resources and budgets.

Senator Freddie Cohen, Minister of Planning and Environment has said: "This is a demanding and challenging role and given his extensive experience I am confident that Andrew Scate will bring a new perspective to the position."

He added, "I would also like to pay tribute to the sterling work that Richard Jouault has done during his time as acting Chief Officer at Planning and Environment. He has worked tirelessly to pull the department together and I am extremely grateful for his efforts."

Apparently he worked on Heathrow's Terminal 5....would that be the same Terminal 5 that through horrendous planning turned into a bit of an embarrassing disaster?

Am I the only person to see the irony in that, coming from a man who habitually overrules and ignores the advice of his own Planning Officers...
