Default £20 million Reef Plan For St Aubin's Bay

Transport and Technical Services Minister Guy de Faye wants to pile rocks on the beach inbetween Elizabeth Castle and St Aubin's Fort, creating at the same time a world-class surf break in the bay. He says that as well as creating good surf all year round, the reef will prevent waves crashing against the sea wall. The proposal, published today, is one of a number of recommendations in a report by New Zealand consultants Shamen Sea Solutions, who have been brought to the Island to look at the Island's sea defences. Shamen, who are being paid £240,000 for their report, also recommend the banning of sandcastles and bait-digging on Jersey beaches, claiming that the displacement of sand is damaging the sea walls. Is this the solution to the sea defences?

Funny it was in both the JEP and on the radio... either they shared the joke (unusual) or one of them fooled the other?!

If you read the JEP report all through, the giveaway that it is an April Fool comes with Shamen's spokesman being named as Ebenezer Goode . "Ebenezer B Goode" by The Shamen was a controversial rock single, back in about 1990. It was curious that Channel 103 ran it too, though. Maybe it was Guy de Faye's s****, not the media's.

Not quite David, it was a dance single, which some thought promoted drug use.

But lets not split hairs.

In the JEP article it stated the Shamens spokesman as saying they could move any mountain. Another dance single by The Shamen in the 90's. Not as popular as Ebeneezer Goode but technically better Imho of course.

Got to be a wind up.

What gives the joke its edge, is that although the reef plan would not be without downsides, it is nowhere near as stupid as some of the things, large and small, that TTS have really gone for. (eg 30mph stickers, Giant La Collette incinerator, to name but two)

I thought 30mph stickers had their use, like H plates, to give impatient drivers stuck behind them... the good reason why they're being held up...?

If you have read the Jersey Highway Code, which is your duty as a driver, then you should already know that large vehicles and trailers are restricted to 30mph.
