States May Pay £1.3m For Flu Vaccine
PLANS to buy enough anti-flu vaccine for every Islander are going back to the States.
Preparations for the world flu pandemic that the World Health Organisation say is inevitable will now go ahead. Health Minister Ben Shenton has said that the cost is justified after receiving a report from the Medical Officer of Health.
He had scrapped plans to ask for the money in one of his first acts as Health Minister, saying that he was not convinced that the financial case had been met.
However, if the States agree, £1.3m will now be spent to ensure that if a pandemic occurs, Jersey will be one of the first places to get the necessary vaccine, and that enough doses will be shipped here to protect the whole population.
