Syvret Speaks To The House
Former health minister Stuart Syvret was given an opportunity to speak to States members today - and tell them how he felt about having his Christmas address cut off by the Bailiff.
As senior States member Senator Syvret had the honour of giving the speech on the last sitting before the Christmas break. But when he began to talk about historic child abuse in the island, Sir Philip Bailhache suspended the sitting.
In a personal statement to the House today, Senator Syvret said the Bailiff's intervention was "sad but predictable". He accused his fellow members of supporting tyranny of the majority over the minority and of suppressing free speech.
Senator Syvret then told a silent assembly that he is going to set up an Abuse Survivors Support Group to help victims because society and the administration has betrayed them.
