Default Consultancy Fees Unacceptable

Increased consultancy fees have no place in Guernsey's budget.

That's according to one politician who's appalled by what she says is a waste of money.

Vale Deputy Mary Lowe, has looked at the figures and says a 33 per cent hike, to £2.5 million next year is unacceptable.

The Budget is due to be debated in the States next week. Deputy Lowe has not put forward any amendments as she was off-island and missed the deadline, but is hoping the discussion will highlight the issue.

Deputy Lowe said; "Unfortunately it just will say consultancy fees, it doesn't tell you what for so you can have a long uphill struggle I guess to find out exactly what they're about. But regardless of that, the States have been told RPI or less and here we have in some instances 300 per cent up, and I just don't think that's acceptable, and I'm surprised we've got this Budget in front of us."
