I've never been out on a charter boat.
Tony Hart of the Anna2 has a pretty good rep.

I'm not sure how it works but I suppose it would depend on where the skippers Bass marks are which will obviously depend on the wheather and tides.

For instance if the Bass marks are on the north coast and it's blowing a northerly 5 or so, he'll not go Bassing.

The same applies to the tide. Most Bass spots are dependent on a fair bit of tide to produce fish so if it's a neap tide the skipper might not see it as a viable option.

Charter boats sometimes tend to be full of holiday makers with their children who are happy just to catch fish. I would presume it would be in the skippers interest to take them out catching "safe bets" i.e. Mackerel, bream and conger.

Bass is slightly more specialised and not quite so plentiful so it might be worth phoning either Nuthy or Hart letting them know you are only interested in catching Bass.

If you could get enough of your friends interested, you could charter the boat for yourselves. I think it is about £500 for up to 12 people, so the more people the cheaper it will be per head.

La Mare Slip on the high water is good when using worms, not heard of any being caught on plugs there.

Green Street, on the re claimed land just south of the water outlet is good with plugs. White rock is good on the outgoing tide with plugs.

Yeah loads of snipe around and the Mackerel are still suicidal.

Haven't heard of any Bass being caught boat or shore. Was out hunting some today plugging from the boat. Had loads os snipe follow my plug up, a couple of Mackerel and a Bass but none of them took it.

Will be trying again during the week and will keep you posted.

I took my son fishing for the first time on Sunday, just down the Harbour and even he was catching mackerel, you would have though he had just hooked moby dick right enough. I dont think he will forget that in a hurry.

Saw a bloody great "sun fish" for the first time the other day. I would estimate it to be around the 30lb mark.

No fishing this weekend due to poor wheather forecast, anybody got any shore fishing planned?
