Island U21s Boosted By Win Over Trinity
JERSEY'S under-21 footballers defeated Trinity 2-0 at Les Quennevais last night in a trial match ahead of Saturday's Ambassadeur Bowl contest away to Guernsey.
Despite being shorn of numerous players who they are still at university, the Island side won with goals from Jack Cannon and one of three over-age players, Scott Healey.
Jersey manager Dave Kennedy said: 'It was a very encouraging performance and, yes, there are a lot more players to come in and those who played last night did their chances of selection no harm at all.
'It was important that we played against good quality opposition and Trinity gave us that and our players responded well to the challenge.
'Scott put us ahead following a good move and Jack made it 2-0 with great free kick from 25 yards.'
Jersey's full squad will have their final training session on Friday evening before travelling to Guernsey for the match at Foote's Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Last night's trial was officiated by Mark Le Cornu with junior referees James Medder and David Le Marquand assisting on the lines.
