Default Havana Club steals Rock in the park name

As some of you may know, some local people have been organising an event in Howard Davis Park for the last 5 years called "Rock in the Park". Every year they get few bands together and put on a day of entertainment for the public to enjoy, the event is always free to attend has been a great success with attendance growing every year. It has always been a great opportunity for local bands, especially the younger guys to showcase their talent in front of large and varied crowds. The most important aspect of the day is the raising of as much money as possible for the chosen charity. All of the organizers take great pride in the hard work that is put in to making the event happen and of course all of the organizers, stewards and helping hands do it for free and look forward to putting on the event year after year. They get nothing but positive feedback from the authorities and all in all it is a fantastic day out for both the performers and the crowds! They have all worked very hard to raise the profile of the event..

Martyn Sayers of the Havana club has chosen to take all of this free effort and great reputation and register the name "Rock in the Park" for his own business purposes, planning to hold an event under this name in Peoples Park bringing over tribute acts from the UK and charging for entry, filling his own pockets with the proceeds and even gloating about his stealing of the event name (allegedly). I am sure i am not alone in thinking that this behavior is disgusting. they did not register the name with the Financial Services as there was and will never be any intention to profit from the event. In retrospect this should not have been overlooked but their priorities have always been to help others less fortunate than themselves and to have a bit of fun with local music.

Does anyone have any information as to what can be done about this?

Tell him he's a pr*ck...probs won't help them out but it may make you feel better!

Take it he feels that the "Martin Sayer's Benevolent Fund" is a far better cause to be raising money for....

I thought the dodgy nightclub owner cliche was a thing of the past?????

Kn*b!

Martyn Sayers has always been a bit of a sleaze bag; this just confirms what most people already knew.
I will be taking this post and emailing it to everyone in my address book, I would ask everyone to do the same. It may not help the original organisers, but it will let people know what has happened here. When people realise at least they will have the choice whether or not to give this clown their money or not. I for one will not be going back to the Havana club either

Reading this I cannot believe what this man has done. I was looking forward to going on Saturday. I must admit I did question why we had to pay for our tickets as it is always free. I did think it maybe because they had to pay UK bands and flights, hotels etc. I find this totally out of order and i will be trying to get a refund for our tickets. I cannot go now knows this man is laughing in our faces.

I find this absolutely incredible, how can this guy get away with this, taking someone’s good name and making money from someone’s hard work. Another thing that gets me about this is, Rock in the park was held at Peoples Park and they charged an entry fee. If you look back in the records, Peoples Park was given to the people, fencing it off and denying the people the access to get in is against the law. People cannot be charged to get into their own park. Maybe the original organisers may be able to do something with that info.
