Default Royal Yacht Gets Nightclub Licence

THE DRIFT Bar at the Royal Yacht will become a nightclub, despite some opposition from local residents and politicians.

In the Royal Court yesterday the Licensing Assembly approved the application for the bar to obtain nightclub status and stay open until 2 am. But the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, warned the proprietors to take note of all that has been said about the Eagle Tavern and said that the same applied to them. The Bailiff said that noisy drunken people were making the streets of St Helier an unpleasant place to be. Representing the company, solicitor John Bisson said that the Royal Yacht was a top-quality hotel and said that people’s fears about the volume of people spilling out onto the streets were unfounded.

I haven't heard anything about free entry, but if that is the case, it's a gimmick. Too much easy money to be lost by not charging an entry fee, for one thing! Give it 6 months and see how free it is.

I couldn't really care less one way or the other if another club opens at that end of town. But regarding opposition to the club, what does bother me is that we're seeing yet another case of the wants of a businessman completely outweighing the wants of local residents - which sadly seems to be a commonly accepted position from Planning today.

If only Nigel Mansell could have sussed out a way to make his fence profitable....

Mansell could electrify said fence....and then all local neds/chavs/muppets who regularly vandalise, bully and generally terrorise the residents of st brelade etc. can be sent on on state sponsored orienteering trips/treasure hunts....with the last clue taped to the fence....

£50 for each frazzled wee sh*te....profiteering and socially conscious culling!

d'you think i'll get a patent?

dont tell us you fat on the fence and the power was off.

i think the yacht getting a nightclub licence is a good thing. I hope they now charge nightclub beer prices and not hotel prices
