BUCKLEY
BIOGRAPHY
CURRENT RESIDENCIES: Back2Basics, We Love Sundays at Space, Ibiza
There are not many DJ’s in the UK, let alone the world that have a biography that stretches
from being a resident at the first ever Renaissance night in ‘92 and the legendary Hacienda
in Manchester, to a current 5yr residency at the infamous Back2Basics in Leeds, and last yr
achieving the ultimate in residency status, when asked by Darren Hughes to join the “We
Love” stable, and become the 4th resident alongside Danny Tenaglia, Nic Fanculli and
studio partner Paul Woolford for “We Love Sundays” @ Space, in the clubbing worlds
Mecca of Ibiza. Known for his truly inspiring, seamless journeys through underground house,
Buckley became a firm favourite with the hardcore music lovers that work on the island all
season, and Buckley was the only DJ to be given the prestigious “man of the match” award
twice, as voted for by the workers in the 2006 summer season.
Being the ‘residents resident’ has ultimately led to an infamous aura that surrounds his
performances. He now makes regular guest appearances at some of the coolest parties
around the globe, Singapore, Thailand, Egypt & Hong Kong have all had a taste of this
artists prowess, as when Buckley steps up to the decks, you can always expect something
very special. Never one to go out and try to get press, Buckley has been slowly carving a
niche for himself, and as he continues on the journey that began over a decade ago, he has
developed a unique and purist sound that can that can be distinctively called his own.
The natural progression had to be to into the studio. It was in 2005, that Buckley had his first
release under his own name, on Jesse Rose’s imprint Made to Play. Bloc Party/ The Jam
was an instant storming success, and enjoyed no less than five plays at Space closing that
summer. As well as rocking the international house charts, it gained number 22 in Mix Mag’s
top 100 tracks of 2006.
It was back in the early 90s, when Buckley started playing for trend-setting UK clubs like
Renaissance and the Hacienda, that he truly fell in love with the scene. Back then, bizarre
cabaret acts worked alongside Indie, Northern Soul, Motown and House music, and this is
where Buckley became part of the unforgettable experience, that everyone felt and no-one
that was there would ever be able to forget!
Next came the era of the first born so called “Superclubs,” and Buckley was asked to guest
DJ at almost every one right round the country, including Ministry Of Sound, Gatecrasher,
Cream, and Colours in Scotland, and by the mid 90s found himself resident at Northern club
nights, Zero G in Nottingham, Pop in Manchester and Up Yer Ronson in Leeds, cementing
his name on the exploding underground house scene.
In 1999, Buckley stepped up to the mike, and started his “In the Groove” Dance radio show,
which he produced and presented on Radio Air Leeds for 4 years. At the same time, Buckley
turned his hand to a spot of promotion, setting up weekly residents night, Change @ the Mint
Club, Leeds, alongside house veteran Graeme Park. The night was welcomed by a
dedicated Leeds fan base, and after the duos parties came to an end, Buckley was snapped
up by Space club in Leeds, where he remained for two years before making the move to
Back2Basics.
Now a well-loved resident at Basics, Buckley plays alongside some of the greatest names in
underground house, many of whom have become good friends, and even production partners.
Basics marked the beginning of Buckley's production experiments, and since grasping the
skill, his releases have remained on a steady flow releasing under the guises of The
Jackford Files on Dust Trax, as the Holy Cow with Tom Wainwright on Sony and more
recently under his own name with Bloc PartyThe Jam.
Though his schedule is full, there is no question of his regular appearances at Back2Basics,
and wherever he is, it’s certain Buckley will remain true to his house music roots, with a
humble passion and warm approach that is an inspiration to DJ's the World over
