Default bakedbeatz@the lounge 8/12/07

back at the Back in 94, a group of like minded clubbers/djs got together. Bored with the 'safe' static club scene, they decided they wanted to hear the music they loved - on the dancefloor. The only way of achieving this was to play the records themselves.

Bakedbeatz was born, and it became a backlash for most things 'dance'. A small backroom bar known as The Hautliens would be the setting where they first began to ply thier funk fueled grooves. Described as drum & bass played at 33rpm, this sound would become known as 'big beat' and was championed by the likes of Fatboy Slim and The Crystal Method. The scene slowly mutated and grew into what we now call breakbeat.

The freshness of those early underground events caused a great deal of interest amongst clubbers who were looking for something different in their weekends. With the club capacity reached, bakedbeatz moved from that small sweaty venue with its mad friendly crowd, and found a bigger place to play...

They took a chance and a Friday night at the Splash, which at the time had the reputation of being alternative - a match surely made in heaven! This would see their nights go from strength to strength and with the infamous Bank Holiday Sunday events attracting clubbers from all corners, it was high times indeed!

Promoting UK djs was never their intention and although they enjoyed guests such as Krafty Kuts, Cut la Roc and Soul of Man, they were just as happy mixing things up amongst themselves.

With appearances at castle events, a flurry of gigs at the Fort and other venues, promoters had slowly begun to bring UK djs to the Splash. Bakedbeatz were soon overshadowed by dj sets from the likes of Leftfield and Orbital, and with those special Sunday events eventually being handed over to the larger promoters, in 99, bakedbeatz called time..
