Default The Drift Bar Fails To Get Nightclub Licence

EFFORTS to gain support for the Drift Bar in the Royal Yacht Hotel obtaining nightclub status failed at a St Helier Parish Assembly last night.

The application, put forward by Yacht Hotel Ltd and opposed by other nightclub owners who were concerned that it would lead to more applications, was defeated by 21 votes to 13.

Representing the company, solicitor John Bisson said that the recently built hotel, in which the owners had invested a substantial amount, already had a comprehensive licence. They were applying for an entertainments licence for the Drift Bar which can currently stay open until 1 am.
