Default Jersey Car Rally 2008

I know its 7 months away, but in Rallying thats not long till I come back to watch the Jersey Rally again which will be my 3rd visit to the island.

As a fan of the rally and also always wanted to visit Jersey I just wanted to know from a residents point of view your thoughts on the Rally.

Do you enjoy then event by getting out and watching it
Do you put up with it knowing its on every year or
Do you not like the event being held as it takes up your time when the event passes your home and races down your lanes
My reason for asking is that on the Bonne Nuit stage last year the road was closed and one guy was wanting to take his dogs for a walk but said he didnt know the rally was on

Is this because the resident dont bother to read the JEP to see when road closures take place or do the local motor clubs send out info to every house on the route stating times of road closures?

For me visiting the island for a mini break and and excellent rally I will be back in October
Regards
Mark

The rally passes by my front door in trinity on alternate years....

the 1st time i wasn't prepared as i never received any leafleting through my door....

i hads only just passed my test and decided to go out for bread and milk that particular saturday morning and just drove under the tape across the drive (i didnt know why it was there!) and pulled in to the road.....after about 5 seconds i heard a hell of a roar, looked in my rear view mirror to be confronted with a scoobie bearing down on me at warp speed.....that was his stage time knackered!

was shouted at by marshalls to "get the **** off the road!" and shown down the way, however, this was 9 in the morning and i could not get home till approx 1pm until the stages finished....

and as anyone knows...when you are only out for the papers etc. you are not usually dressed to nightclub standard so i had to sit in my mates house this saturday morning....with trackie bottoms, gap top, trainers and nae undercrackers or socks on!

not best pleased that day....especially as an unexperienced driver!

that said when they came back last year i sat in a deckchair in the field next to the house, beer in hand watching them fly past...and it was class!

I go to the Rally quite a lot, i love all the old fords, i used to build RS 2000s, Mexico's Mk1 and 2 a good few years ago now. Think i prefer the mk2 with the black interior though lol. Whats that in the pic, Mexico? or RS 1600 or a Harrier lol. Nice Car.

I go and watch it some years if its close to my house.

As for Haggis's experience, it must have been an oversight. A dangerous one but an oversight. I am glad it didnt make you a rally hater like alot of people on this island.

The battle of flowers etc cause loads of hassle but that doesnt get the moaners writing letter into the JEP year in year out.

Its 2 days of annoyance (well one and a half really), people should get a grip. I am afraid too many people live in a bubble and their lives are too easy.

I dont really care what event runs, if it is people enjoying themselves and brings money to the Island then go for it. One or 2 days of sitting in traffic on the way to work or sitting in the garden with a beer a la Haggis. People could actually go out for the morning/afternoon if it pains them that much.

Most years they run past my house, and I like to watch. It is not often enough to be a bore.

If the weather's good and I've got a chance, yes I'll watch. Not if it's cold and wet. The trouble usually is finding somewhere to park. In an ideal world there would be a proper event stage where there was a long straight and spectacular bend, and a sloping field from where a large crowd could watch.. entertainments laid on, stalls, funfair, beer tent, plenty of parking etc etc.

The other problem (for my short attention span) are the long gaps where nothing happens. I get bored easily!

I think it's great fun for so many people, it's a shame that people get grumpy about something that can only inconvenience them for a short while.. which can be planned around.
