Hiya,

Yeah I think facebook requires membership to see events, etc. Mark Sallai from Jersey Soap / Beads N Crafts created the event, and posted this:

"Hi yes The Fete de Noue is also being held at the Harbour Gallery St.aubins opening party night Thurday 4th Dec from 6.30pm then throu 4 days with various Crafts stalls and workshops
see us There Beads-n-Crafts and Jersey Soap
Mark x"

Probably best to give him a quick ring to check what they are planning - 744683 - but I think it's going to be along the lines of craft workshops, etc!

Hi Rob,

No worries - my mum runs Jersey Soap, so I have something of an interest in helping them out!

You can register on farcebook with a false name and disposable hotmail account, if you don't want Big Brother to know who you know so easily

Not yet, particularly, but you never know what may change in the future so I don't see why I should make it any easier for any future b******s to know far too much about me!

After all, it's a big brother wet dream for people to actively choose to record all their friends and contacts and make it so accessible!

There are countries around the world right now where, if you lived there, you'd want to play your cards close to your chest - so I'm not kidding myself that such a regime could never ever rise to power here in my lifetime. Consider how many things have come to pass in the last 20 years that we'd never have dreamt of back in 1988. It doesn't take much imagination, but a black president of the USA is the most obvious contender. Pick a current war and ask yourself if you saw it coming five years earlier?

What if global warming, fuel price rises, collapse of the economy, terrorism all conspire to make life absolutely massively different by, say, 2018? A starving unemployed population, collossal crime levels - all these things allow fascism to take hold, and then all bets are off.

You can't blindly assume things will stay roughly the same.

So, yeah, I trust no-one

hehe, that does makes me sound a bit paranoid doesn't it

I'm not losing any sleep over remote possibilities, I'm just not doing anything online that I regard as unnecessarily unsafe. Using real names online and listing all your contacts doesn't have any appeal to me whatsoever - who knows when it may snap back and bite you on the ass?
