Default Google Ratings

I hear a lot of people go on about Google Ratings and how they can help your website. Does anyone know much about it? Also Google Ad sense, what is that? I have a small website and have been told by a few people that I have to get a good Google rating.

Do you mean PageRank, or simply the position in searches?

If you search google for something you think people would type in when looking for you - yeah - you want to rank well for it, so you come up within the first couple of pages, ideally.

Sadly not necessarily a simple thing to achieve - do a search for Google Webmaster Central, sign up and go through the steps to verify your site - there are some easy to use tools in there which will help you to analyse how well indexed your site is at present!

No short answer to that unfortunately! It's to do with many factors, including but not limited to (and in no particular order):

1. The content in your site (look up 'keyword density' - this is particularly relevant)

2. The number of links which exist to your site from others (back links) - in particular those which are considered high quality (e.g. where your link appears in a solid/good context)

There are several other factors - including how your site is structured, the title, meta keywords and meta descriptions tags, and so forth!
