Default Are watches now uncool?

At the cafe having Sunday lunch, I noticed a young bloke wasn't wearing a watch. I looked around and was amazed how many other trendy youngsters (anyone under 30 to me!) weren't wearing watches either.
Is this some new trend I've only just noticed? Is it now old fashioned to wear a watch - because you've got the time on your mobile instead, perhaps?
Strange really, because a nice watch can be 'blingy', like jewellery, so I'd have thought that they would seize every chance they could to have something to show off with.
Or is it like me refusing to wear 'labels' or a tie, because it's one less thing people can judge you about?

New trend, or nothing's really changed?

I like wearing a watch but adhere to the old adage that you need a dress watch - so i forego the everyday watch in favour of having a nice one that i dont wear at all times...

Don't know, don't really care. It's functional and I need one so I wear one.

That is all.

The sheer number of trendy young things without watches made me curious, that's all.

They aint trendy - it's just they didnae learn from their old school grandad's like us....

My grandad was the epitome of sartorial dudeness....all tweed suits and quality headgear....best pocket watch ever as well...

Could've shown these so called trendy muppets a thing or two!

The oldies had it!

I don't wear a watch, I always ended up scratching them somehow. I just look at my mobile if I need to know the time.

I think most people do use the mobile to check time, most probably still have a watch but it is often only wore on nights out.

By the OP's definitely I'm barely young, and I don't wear a watch. I use my phone to tell the time instead (quite good time sense, though, so I can normally guess fairly accurately what time it is).

This is however, not for the obvious reason. I have three watches - they are all broken (one irreparably, the other two need new batteries).

Sadly when we moved, they got packed, and I haven't found them yet!
