Default Tidal Power

Jersey is taking a serious look at harnessing sea power.

Environment Minister Freddie Cohen has formed a working group which will report their findings this autumn.

Grouville Constable Dan Murphy is heading the group which will examine how Jersey could use its marine tidal resources.

Turbines powered by tidal currents are already off the drawing board and going into early production. They're still a very new form of technology but pioneers are confident there's a long term future.

I remember about 6 years ago someone put this to the States and they knocked it back, with some of the strongest currents in Europe it could be a great idea
