I've seen it starting to go up, and it is going to be quite big.. but it's quite close to the motorway and the upturned slug cafe - so it shouldn't be a problem for the airplanes... espec. as they seem to fly half a mile out to sea and you have to squint to see them these days.
It is very close to the flats at the end of the hospital road, where Thacks/Buzz Bar used to be - so I'm not surprised the people there aren't best pleased.

I think I would be a little bit p***ed off if I lived down there myself. I can just see it now, sitting having your breakfast underwear and some train spotter on a big wheel looking what your having for breakfast.

Some of the gondolas are on the wheel now - they look tiny compared to the London Eye ones. I don't think I'll be going on it.

Not bothered at all, if it gives people something to do and i'm pretty sure it will, for a few months what's the problem?
I for one love urban structures/towns/cities, so if you don't like it there's plenty of room to go even on a small island.

Also the the idiotic air display debate, you'll only find that in Jersey, all talk and no facts.

Every year Mr Higgins cries wolf over the air display saying it's going to be cancelled because of, no funding, a hotel in the way or, as now, a bloody big Catherine wheel spoiling the flight line.

One year his prediction may come true.

yes, en830, even though things look safe there are often idiotic rulings made in the name of flight safety (i.e. the millions wasted up at the airport just to comply with CAA rulings that are out of scale to Jersey ... next plan is to fence in the entire airfield despite no-one being the slightest bit interested in going for a wander on the runway) - rulings beyond our control. I don't believe Mr Higgins is crying wolf.

There's another wheel video :

Judging by the Channel Television, this monstrosity seems to give a great view of the marina building site and the esplanade car park - certainly worth the extra £2 compared to when the wheel was elsewhere, I'm sure you'll agree!

Also - does any one else find those lights just the tiniest bit tacky?

Considering the flight line is 3/4 of a mile to the South, this new attraction is going to no more of a hindrance than Fort Regent, La Collette Power Station or the cranes as the harbour. IMHO every year he cries wolf to get publicity.

The wheel is well behind the crowd line and as far as I am aware air show rules were changed in the aftermarth of the 1988 Ramstein disaster prohibiting display aircraft from performing close to or crossing the crowd line.
