Default Your Forum

Only came across this the other night and you seem to have as much going on as WhyGuernsey which allegedly has 6,000 members! Mind you, half of this number is made up of dual log-ins. WhyGuernsey is now pretty boring in any case.

For those that may recognise my name, I used to be involved in WhyJersey as a Mod which we closed down back in the Summer of 2006.

It was closed down for a number of reasons, but we did have a lot of arguing going on before the plug was pulled!

There are a few of us currently working on an anti-establishment website to be launched in Mid-Feb. Unlike "isthisJersey" we will not be linking any ATTAC or Tax Justice Network" bollox.

Obviously the elections are coming up in October and we want to make this more political than anything else.

The Website already exists, but is off-line and is currently being re-vamped. We hope the Forum will be supplemental others.

JTM

But well done in putting this together!

I eagerly look forward to the website, Mr. Maverick. I hope it'll be a force for change.

The Internet is resource that hasn't yet properly been harnessed where island politics is concerned, and the potential to use it to bring about real and huge change is immense - especially concerning the awakening of the interest of the younger generations. If they can be inspired to vote, power can ripped from the hands of those elder politicians who now so complacently take their positions for granted.

The old boys have had their day, and some might say they've more than shown they didn't deserve it. So it's time to flush them out of the system.

Even if your site only slightly starts to set the wheels for change in motion, it will have been a success.

I have to say that what we are trying to do here is the same, make people think and then act, because without that we will be f**ked!

The reason that whyJersey failed was because it ended up as a site mainly slagging Polish. - encouraged/flamed by yourself.

I see that you are attempting to do the same on this site, and have done so on other sites.

Have you thought of a name for yourwebsite? - Something like "I hate Poles (especially Polish women)"?

That’s cr&p, the Forum was certainly not closed for that.

We did have a couple of idiot posters coming on all the time, one funny enough started with the first 2 initials of you name! But his complaint was dealt with by the owner of site, so to start bringing that up now is stupid.

In any case the Polish argument is very old now anyway and the start of the thread has nothing to do with me. The National newspapers have taken over and repeated everything we said back then anyhow so you can rant as much as you like, but everything that was said has been repeated elsewhere already.

Mind you I think your idea of "I hate Poles" for a website is actually a good idea! I think a group should be set up on Facebook and I just wonder how many members from the UK will join over a month if they know about it? 200,000 maybe? Speak to all, English, Irish and Scottish, Portuguese, they are ALL sick to the teeth of Poles.

There is no hiding away from that Agnes!

I can back Mr.Maverick up on denying this. There was one incredibly vocal thread dedicated to discussing the Polish situation, in which a couple of idiots were simply being racist - as you'll find in any pub, club or place of work if you gathered everyone together for a honest discussion.

The real problems for the forum were caused by members of WhyGuernsey, who on their forum insisted on screeching and howling that WhyJersey was a racist forum on the basis of that one thread. I even recall a Guernsey States member, Deputy Roffey, throwing himself into the fray with proclamations of WhyJersey being "a racist cesspit", which in hindsight could probably have earned him a day in court for libel.

I actually emailed him asking for an explanation and apology for that comment, as I found it pretty disgusting and two-faced that a politician from an island with some of the strictest immigration controls in Europe, possibly the strictest, had the gall to throw accusations of racism at Jersey residents who were calling for immigration controls after getting tired of suffering completely uncontrolled and unmonitored immigration for a number of years.

On WhyJersey it was people jumping into the discussion of immigration with unhelpful and ignorant comments such as yours Agnes, who helped fuel the fire of argument, and kill any educated or civil discussion - just as badly as those who simply used the opportunity to make racist comments.

100% correct on the Roffey outbursts, (I think I know who you are now lol).

Though the real reasons why the forum came to an end was one being that the membership was not creeping up as much as the admin would have liked.

We also had trouble with a couple of posters that were actually starting threads that were libel, and arguing on the shout box which kept on firing up in the afternoons.

But that it is all in the past and there is no way I would have been able to give it the time now as a Mod.

The next website will have no Guernsey connection this time. And I doubt we will be discussing Poles. There is enough about Poles in the national media anyway. And as I said it is "old" news now.

We are concentrating on the October elections and that will be the number one priority.
