UK FM
When the air pressure is obliging we do get FM radio direct from the mainland to the north, although you may need to park up at the cliffs to hear it best. BBC stations can be heard on other frequencies from transmitters such as North Hessary Tor, Caradon Hill, Rowridge, Redruth, Wrotham, Wenvoe, and also a number of independent stations. Top 40 hits from the last few decades and adverts tend to sound the same no matter where it comes from!

French FM
For a slightly different choice of music, we aren't that far from France as radiowaves are concerned, so we are blessed with an FM band full of French radio stations from their coastal transmitters on the parts of Brittany and Normandy that face us. Good lists for Cherbourg, Coutances, Granville, Rennes, St.Malo, Dinan, St.Brieuc, Brest etc can be found at http://www.brume.org/radios/index.php
There aren't many truly local stations left now, as most of the 1980s free-for-all ended up in a frenzy of buy-outs forming national networks. These include :

news.. BBC Jersey's computer playout system is down, awaiting a UK engineer visit.
Imagine having to host a morning show on your own with no jingles, trails or other prerecorded items, and even your sidekick is off ill so you're own your own to fill hours of airtime with nothing but your own voice! Poor old Matty P, LOL

Interestingly (to this nerd anyway), they appear to have gone back to CD for music - I heard Spandau B's 'True' earlier and the sound quality was astonishingly good compared to the usual compressed rubbish (I still hate the mushy song though!).
