Default Make Wine out of your extra crops - Recipie

To Much Veg? then make something nice out of it :-)

here is a Recipe I found online, if anyone wants to try it, I left out the campden tab as dident have any but mine worked fine, after a month I have 8 liters of a potent golden coloured wine with no bean taste,

Runner bean wine!!

3lb runner beans (or trimmings)
3lb sugar
8 oz raisins
sachet wine yeast
campden tablet

Boil the runner beans until tender in as much water as possible, up to 8 pints. In a large bucket pour the strained liquid over the sugar, raisins and campden tablet and leave to cool to blood heat. Add the yeast and cover , leave to ferment for 1 week. Transfer the wine into a demi-john (through some muslin if possible) and fit an airlock. Leave to bubble away and siphon off a couple of times until clear. Siphon off into sterilised bottles and leave for a few months to mature. It turns out like a dry sherry with quite a kick, don't try drinking it by the bottle!! Very nice chilled.

Thumbs up

I dont think vraic would work Matt, as the salt will kill the yeast, it needs sweet stuff to eat like in fruit & veg. No headaches so far Tosh, Hic!

if the States of J. put up the duty on booze as their saying today then this is our best option to brew our own stuff and save dosh.
I have my own way of making wine at home using kitchen equipment if you want more info I will put it here.

A chap at Gorey sells everything you need to make Wine or Beer and has some on sale at the Holme Grown Farm Shop Holme Grown,
Jersey Home brewers

Distilling is illegal here but its very easy to build one and you can turn your wine into spirits or make fuel for your car, see how they are made here (its a french chap in germany) Alambics & alquitaras

Matt,
if you get nettles go for the ones inland away from traffick fumes and collect the top bits as they are the best and freshest.
remember to wear rubber gloves!
the kind of fruit for wine making really dosent matter to much
the recipie I followed makes about 5 liters of wine in one batch,
its very drinkable after about a month, so I just keep making a new lot every two weeks, saves a hell of a lot of money and tastes good :-)
im using my normal kitchen equiment to make it and a 5.5ltr plastic cake storer to ferment it in the airing cupboard, and sugar and bread yeast from co-op works well.
