Default Arthurlie

ARTHURLIE are overwhelming favourites to win their first trophy in five seasons when they meet Renfrew in the Central League Cup Final at Dunterlie Park tonight.

But Lie will meet a resurgent Frew, whose fortunes have turned for the better since the appointment of co-bosses Colin Clark and Martin Ferry.

Added spice to the clash is provided by Barrhead boss Mark Cameron looking to beat one of his former teams, who will themselves parade no fewer than four ex-Lie boys in Bonnar McKenzie, Craig Marshall, Alan Smith and Jamie Docherty.

That connection could be a crucial motivational factor, according to Ferry. He said: "Everyone likes to do well against their former club, and it is especially true in the cases of Jamie and Alan, who were signed Arthurlie players as recently as January and, hopefully, they can prove a point on this their first return to Dunterlie."

Someone else likely to be highly motivated is veteran warhorse Gordon Cochrane, who played in countless derbies against Arthurlie during his 10- year stint with Neilston.
